Description
This bibliography contains sources of information documenting the experiences of people who canoed, fished, hunted, and trapped the Rangeley Lakes Region of western Maine. (Excluding the Seven Ponds area which is included in the sporting bibliographies for the Dead River and Tim Pond). Types of information sources included were mostly designed for anglers and hunters and include: books and booklets, guidebooks, outdoor sporting periodicals, railroad booklets and pamphlets, maps, and photographs (especially stereoviews). This bibliography heavily relies on the information provided by five pioneering promoters of Rangeley Lakes tourism: George Henry Haynes (1835-1912), Daniel E. Heywood (1869-1911), Charles A. J. Farrar (1842-1893), Samuel Farmer (1828-1913), and Edwin R. Starbird (1853-1921).
