Oxford Democrat Index
The Oxford Democrat index is an electronic version of a six volume paper index available at the Bethel Historical Society's research library. The index was compiled by Randall H. Bennett and covers personal and place names mentioned in local news articles and columns. Names appearing in birth, death, and marriage announcements are mostly not covered in this index. However, many vital records drawn from the Oxford Democrat can be found in our separate Western Maine Births, Western Maine Deaths, and Western Maine Marriage indexes.
Many of the full newspapers published between 1850 and 1922 have been digitized as part of the Chronicling America project and may now be found online in the DigitalMaine repository or at Chronicling America.
