This bibliography contains sources of information documenting the experiences of people who canoed, fished, and hunted the Dead River Region of western Maine. (Excluding Tim Pond which has its own bibliography). This bibliography also includes the Megantic Fish and Game Club, established in the upper reaches of the Androscoggin and Dead rivers in 1887. Types of sources included were mostly designed for anglers and hunters and include: books and booklets, guidebooks, outdoor sporting periodicals, railroad booklets and pamphlets, maps, and photographs (especially stereoviews). This bibliography includes period maps showing the trails cut through the wilderness in the 1870-80s to link the three public sporting camps founded by the “Pioneer of the Dead River Region, Kennedy Smith.”
