The search box below offers an easy way to search the full text of our newspaper archives hosted on the Internet Archive website.
Search Tips
- Use quotation marks around a multi-word phrase to limit searches only to that exact phrase. Using no quotation marks will bring up results that match any of the words you enter.
- Once you press search, you will be taken to the Internet Archive website. Altering the search terms in the search box on the Internet Archive website will not limit the search to the newspaper(s) selected here. It will search all items on the Internet Archive website. To perform a new newspaper search, return to this page.
- Optical character recognition (OCR) is hit-or-miss. Just because a search returns no results doesn't mean the search term or name doesn't appear in the newspaper. To be extra thorough you can also:
- Search variations of the word or phrase you are looking for, or search for other words that might be found in close proximity.
- Consider also checking our Bethel Newspaper and Oxford Democrat indexes for years in which these are available.
- If you are looking for an obituary or an event and you know the general timeframe, consider manually browsing the newspapers from around that time. (Check the Online Serial Collections list for links to where you can manually browse newspapers by date.)
- The following years are missing from the Oxford County Advertiser collection: 1888, 1889, 1892, 1894. There may also be some smaller gaps in these collections, such as occasional missing issues or issues missing pages.
- Oxford Democrat newspapers from 1850-1921 were previously digitized as part of the national Chronicling America project. To search these issues, please visit Chronicling America. (To limit to Oxford Democrat choose "Oxford Democrat" from the menu that reads "Or Select Newspaper(s).")
