Aroostook County, Sept. 21-24, 2001. Six dedicated Road Diaries explorers trek across the state to find the "real" Maine. This area, more than any other, was unknown to them. Maine's northernmost county is the largest county east of the Mississippi. Its total area is larger that Rhode Island and Connecticut combined. The enormity of its area creates a challenge to provide goods, services, and jobs to the largely rural population.
