Songs of the Logging Camps

April 22 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

On Sunday, April 22, at 7:30 pm, Sara Grey from Rockland, Maine, and Brian Miller of Bemidji, Minnesota, will perform a lively selection of songs from Ireland which migrated to the logging camps of Northern New England, New Brunswick, Ontario, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Join us at the West Parish Congregational Church (Church St., across from the Academy) for a special evening of old songs, including several preserved by Bethel’s own Carrie Grover (1878-1959). Born in Nova Scotia, Carrie Grover moved to Maine when she was twelve, attended Gould Academy, and later taught music there. She recorded a number of British ballads for the Library of Congress, and later compiled and privately published a large collection of songs and ballads from her family’s tradition.

Admission is by donation ($10 suggested). FMI: 207-824-290
