Annual Meeting & Program: “Meet ‘Fly Rod’ Crosby”
September 5 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
The 2019 Annual Meeting of the Bethel Historical Society (d/b/a “Museums of the Bethel Historical Society”) will begin with a 6:30 pm pot-luck supper, followed at 7:30 by a short business meeting. The evening’s program will be provided by Pam Matthews, who will present herself as Cornelia “Fly Rod” Crosby, born at Phillips, Maine, in 1854. Crosby’s passion was fly fishing, and as a journalist she promoted the Maine woods, helping to create the Maine Guide program and receiving the first Maine Guide badge. Known as “Fly Rod”, Crosby defied expectations by boldly breaking into the mostly male world of fishing and hunting.
Following her performance, Pam Matthews will be available to sign copies of her children’s book, Cornelia “Fly Rod” Crosby, Champion of Maine, which is illustrated by Heidi Kendrick (who may also attend).
