Collections Showcase – Earth Station at Andover, Maine

As a regional museum that presents themed exhibits, we realize that only a limited number of items from the thousands of photos, books, objects, and manuscripts in our holdings can be displayed at any one time. To help remedy this situation, we will offer scheduled tours of our storage areas in the near future. In addition, we have launched an on-going series of “Collection Showcases” to highlight groups of collection items related by subject and/or time period.

Our current Showcase focuses on the Earth Station at Andover, Maine, which was created in the early 1960s in connection with the Telstar satellite project. We thank MBHS trustee Mike Stowell for generously donating many artifacts, documents, and photographs regarding the Earth Station from his personal collection that are included in this mini-exhibit.
